Wednesday Apr 19, 2023
Wednesday Apr 19, 2023
I have bad feeling about this. Just when we thought things couldn't get any worse for Star Wars. Kathleen Kennedy & Co. never seems to disappoint us in leaving us scratching our heads. Join us as we try to discuss our take away - recapping Star Wars Celebration 2023. If you know us by now. You know we don't pull any punches as it relates to things we don't like about the current state of Star Wars. But, that doesn't mean we think every announcement made by Lucasfilm was bad....does it, right Turk?! lol

We're back after a much needed break, and we're ready to cover some interesting news as it relates to some of our favorite IPs. First on deck is the much anticipated live action show covering MCU's Secret Invasion. Samuel L Jackson is back as Nick Fury, and the premise on paper sounds promising. However, information has come to light about the show being inspired by current world events. Will this be the usual MCU virtual signaling and preaching? Or will it mean something totally different and awesome?
In addition, we also discuss Mandalorian Season 3 ratings slide, and Jon Favreau's recent statements claiming the buck stops at him when it comes to creative control with the show. Is this just a deflection to Protect Bob Iger and Kathleen Kennedy? If not, then the question becomes is Jon Favreau really fit to write for episodic TV?
As usual we break it down the only way we can - with zero punches pulled! Anyways, come join the discussion and fun. As we fight one soy boy at a time. Thanks for listening.

Turk & Raz Podcast # 43 - Legends of the Fall (1994) Retro Roundtable
Saturday Feb 25, 2023
Saturday Feb 25, 2023
Welcome to another retro roundtable. For this roundtable we have become legend…. Legends of the Fall, that is. Turk and I always talk about how they don’t make movies like they used to anymore. To be honest we can’t remember the last time a film could hold a person, so spell bound. Well, the 1994 tragic and heartbreaking love story ‘Legends of the Fall’ does this to perfection. Not only are the characters in this movie engaging and vividly portrayed by the cast such as the likes of Brad Pitt, Anthony Hopkins, Julia Ormond, & Aidan Quinn. They also bring an inspired nuance and undertones, that is shame to this day none of the cast received an Oscar consideration for their portrayals. Everything in this movie is haunting, especially the Oscar winning cinematography capturing the beautiful scenery set in the Montana backdrop.
Alright, ladies and gentlemen. If generational period films is your type of thing? Then this episode of the Turk & Raz Podcast has the jam you need. Thanks for listening!
P.S. Sorry about the audio. We tried to salvage the podcast audio as best we could. Our only other option was re-record and who wants to do that lol.

Turk & Raz Podcast # 41 - Back to the Future (1985) Retro Roundtable
Saturday Feb 11, 2023
Saturday Feb 11, 2023
The Back To The Future trilogy has been a childhood favorite for both Turk & I for a long time. Having revisited the first movie for this retro roundtable, it brought us back to a very nostalgic state. I think we can all agree the 80's saw a lot of excellent original fun 'young' films like 'Back to the Future'. What really made these films immensely enjoyable then, and why they're still classics today, is that they really reflected what it was like being a young person in the 80s.....I guess in the 50s too?!. The proof is in the pudding with these movies. They were not just well written, directed, or acted. They were also well executed and most importantly they cut straight to the point.
Back To The Future is sheer fun with incredible energy! However it still manages to stay a heart felt innocent film basically about family - with some funny interesting but cleaver themes using the Oedipus Rex's story 🤔
What can we say about the acting. Overall everyone in the film is fantastic. Then we have Christopher Lloyd as the over-the-top mad scientist which is just sheer brilliance. Then there is Michael J. Fox as Marty Mcfly. With his brilliant dialogue, natural charisma, and raw energy - he totally owns the role and gives us one the greatest cinematic young heroes ever!
Back to the Future is one of the most enjoyable time-travelling classics. After all these years it still hasn't gotten old. Unfortunately, they don't make them like this anymore but then again I guess we can always just revisit them, right.
This is a Turk & Raz episode you'll want to go back in time to listen to. Thanks for listening!

Hey everyone! In this episode Turk and I catch up on some fun and interesting rumors and news including Mandalorian Season 3 and how it could lead to the dreaded Sequel Trilogy (sorry sequel fans, but Turk and I do not like those movies). We also discuss Avatar: The Way of Water's domestic and worldwide box office, and what James Cameron had to say about Marvel. We also look at a rumor suggesting a certain character in the new Indiana Jones: Dial of Destiny role will be be cut down significantly. Who could it be and what is the reason for this? Finally, we cover some sad news as it relates to Mark Hamill's Joker. Since the passing of Kevin Conroy, the voice of Batman from the legendary Batman: The Animated Series. The big question remains - will Hamill continue the role with out Conroy?

In this episode we talk about some of the more interesting headlines and rumors associated with Marvel and DC films. First we cover a article reporting that the last minute Reshoots in January to Ant-Man & Wasp: Quantamania could mean we are getting a more dick and fart joke heavy movie vs a more serious deeply emotional film that it was originally intended to be? In the second article we cover the more likely possibility that David Ayer's original cut of the 2016 'Suicide Squad' will see the light of day with the new take over with James Gunn as the new CEO of DC Studios. Finally, we discuss an article discussing The Joker Part 2's composer discussing the sequels direction as a musical and what this all could mean for Todd Phillip's Joker Universe? Thanks for listening.

Turk & Raz Podcast # 37 - Why Does Hollywood Suck so much these days
Saturday Jan 07, 2023
Saturday Jan 07, 2023
There was once a time when going to the latest film at the cinema was a big event outing. These days anytime a big tentpole film is about to be released. The usual feeling is - what social political messages are they going to preach to us this time. It seems Hollywood has forgotten what people love about watching movies and TV shows? The chance to experience pure 'escapism'. Who didn't dream they could fly like Superman around the world, or take up adventures and fight the Evil Empire like Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Princess Leia?
Movie sequels such as Thor Love and Thunder, and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever should be sure fire hits having people craving to see more of these fan favorite heroes. Instead these movies offer little more than some companies (Disney) or film makers particular social messaging by deconstructing and subverting our expectations on how these characters should be represented. Do we even have to mention Rian Johnson's take on Luke Skywalker in the Last Jedi. Where he took the most hopeful person in the Stars Wars Universe, and made him the most hopeless person who gave up on everyone - who's only purpose in the film is to die.
In this episode of the Turk & Raz we do our own deconstruction on why Hollywood these days just plain SUCKS! Thanks for listening.

Turk & Raz Podcast # 36 - DC continues to drop the ball with Superman
Friday Dec 30, 2022
Friday Dec 30, 2022
DC is under new leadership. Warner Bros. Discovery has hired James Gunn as co-chairman and co-CEO of DC Studios. In their first order of business they decide to cut ties with Henry Cavill as Superman. Henry Cavill is more than just an actor. He is a unique person who has a true passion for fictional universes - DCs Superman, The Witcher, Warhammer. And we think he deserves better.
In this episode we discuss the pros and cons of this big change. Is starting from scratch the kick start DC needs to finally have a cinamatic universe it's characters deserve. Also, we discuss what this could mean for the upcoming film's still yet to be released - Shazam! Fury of the Gods, Flash Point, Blue Beetle, and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. How will this affect audiences excitement going into these films. Is there any point to care? I guess we'll wait and see. Thanks for listening.
